Google Search Console
Larry Page is a computer scientist , who is known as a co-founder of GOOGLE. When google was introduced in 1998 , we had to give our email-ID so that google would send the answers to our queries later. At that time , Yahoo and India Times used the same method to give results.
This all changed in September 2011 , when the World Trade Center Attack took place. The attack was initiated by Bin Laden and al-qaeda group by using flights to crash into the tower. After this event , all the people were curious about the event and had many doubts and questions. But as google used the method of answering via email , it took a lot of time and hence took a negative toll on google. This is when google decided to change its method and make it more user friendly.
1. Crawling : Crawling is a process of scanning. It is done by a program called WEBCRAWLER , also known as google bots , robots or spider. Google takes the information from various webpages . They first scan the content , and after understanding the documents , google takes a snapshot and saves it in it's database , category wise.
2. Caching : Google analyses and takes snapshot. This process is called caching.
3. Indexing : These snapshots are saved and categorized. Later google index these snapshots when we search. This process is called Indexing.
SEO STARTER GUIDE
Google cannot make webpages crawlable , instead they can just make the webmasters aware about the process of crawling , caching and indexing. Google realized that this was important after the World Trade Center Attack event. So Google decided to publish the SEO starter guide document and the webmasters could log in and edit accordingly.
Even though the SEO people did not agree to this idea , Google officials decided to share this document.
I) Content specific / Niche specific -------> Keyword specific
As Google was content specific , many webpages used the same information and hence there was a spamming of information. So , Google made it's search engine KEYWORD SPECIFIC. This means that the more number of times your focusing keyword is used in the content , the more chance of your page being ranked high. This will help in getting your page on top when searched using your focusing keyword.
But , because of this people started using the method of KEYWORD STUFFING. It is a Blackhat ( non-ethical ) SEO technique , where the focusing keywords are stuffed in webpages to improve the ranking.
1. Writing the keyword in the same colour as the background page.
2. By making the keywords smaller.
This change did not improve the quality of the content published.
II) Keyword specific -------> Link specific
This meant that links were considered as a vote of recommendation i.e; when the link to our page is given in another page , through hyperlinks , it means that people are recommending our website and vice versa. This was taken as the basis for determining the ranks.
So , people started coming forward to sell their links.
III) Link specific -------> Quality Link specific
This basically meant that if a high quality website recommends our page and provides our link in their page , the chances of us getting a higher rank is more. For understanding which all websites can be considered as quality websites , Google introduced quality rank system called PAGE RANK. This system will indicate the trust value of a website and rank it out of 10.
This mark out of 10 was determined by considering factors like :
* Revisit level
* Time spend on the website
* How fast the website loads
* Number of visits
* Increased Quality etc.
So , people with high page rank started selling their links. ( Some website owners sold to webmasters ).
This was not controllable by Google. And even with all these changes , the quality of the content had not increased.
IV) Quality link specific -------> Passing the Juice
This process refers to the value or equity passed from one page or site to another through hyperlinks. The Search Engine see these links as votes. Equity adds each time someone comes to your website.
However , if 'rel=nofollow" is used , equity will not be passed.
Google updated their algorithms between 2003-2004. Google ads were introduced during this period , which were prepaid programs. These google ads were also known as google adwords and PPC (Paper Click).
This was introduced with the intention of earning revenue. It used cost per click value to determine the revenue using the target keywords.
IN 2009 ,Google Suggest , a personalized search result was introduced. The objectives were :
1. To make google interactive.
2. To make google personalized.
Based on people's interaction , the websites were ranked.
These interactions include :
* Revisit
* Comments
* The Time spend
* Frequent use
* Shares on Social Media
* Number of Subscribers.
In 2010 , Google started Social Media Signals. It means that if our website's links are shared on social medias like Facebook , Orkut etc , the chances of our page getting a high rank is more.
The reason behind this was , in 2010 , many people were using social media and the time spend on social media was huge.
As so many people started sharing their blog and links in social media , the interactions they received through that became an important criteria in the ranking process.
The more influential power people had , the better chances of them getting a high rank. Influential power or social media authority power lies with the people who have more followers and more number of people who interact in their posts.
