In 2011 , Google decided to increase the quality of Google Suggest. This was done to increase the trust value of the users.
Matthew Cutts , popularly known as Matt Cutts was behind all this algorithm changes.
Content Spamming includes:
a) Using duplicate content [plagiarism]
b) Misspelled Content
c) Grammatical error content
d) Low quality content
e) Content Spinning - using same content in different pages with small changes.
f) Publishing thin pages - pages published with few content.
g) Key word stuffing.
2. Penguin Update (April 2012): This update is related to link spamming , to avoid low quality links in our website.
Link Spamming includes:
a) Link exchange
b)Buying and selling links
c) Paid links
d) Comment Spamming - Pasting of links on other websites as comments
e) Wik Spamming - In Wikipedia , people started sharing their websites links .
f) Automated links - Some programmers created links by automation and injected these links in other websites.
g) Guest Blogging - Adding our links on other blogs as guests. But only when it is overused , it is considered as a spamming activity.
h) Internal link building.
In September and October of 2016 , Penguin 4.0 was introduced. This was done to improve Googles ability to filter out spam and provide users with high quality websites.
3. Pigeon Update (July 2014) : This update was introduced targeting the local audience. Searches started providing information which are useful locally.
Example : Identify location for nearby restaurants , hospitals , service centers etc.
How to do ?
i) Verify the website and and submit on 'Google my business'. They will send a pin number.
ii) Give the pin number and phone number [ Submit this in the local directories like Yellow pages , Just dial etc ]
iii) Get interaction from local audience on social media. [This will help in local ranking ]
4. Humming Bird Update (September 2013) : For deep - crawling and to provide deep - information , this update was introduced by the artificial intelligence.
This update is related to an interactive way to provide deep - information and the way people respond to the website. These two factors will help to decide the rank of the website. This update was done to increase the speed and accuracy of the website.
5. Rank Brain Update (October 2015) : For a single product or topic , different questions can be asked. So , Google through their artificial intelligence try to understand the topic and queries and answer accordingly.
6. Parked Domain Update (April 2012) : A parked domain name is a registered domain name which is booked and not yet made into a website. These are parked for later use.
In these parked domain , there will be no information , only some links will be available.
To not show these parked domain when a search takes place , this update was introduced. The main aim was to improve the quality of the content.
7. Exact Match Domain Update (September 2012) : The keywords are directly given in the domain name and these keywords are booked. The websites under these keywords , which had low quality content , not enough interaction and visibility were removed from google search result.
The main aim behind this update was to maintain the quality of the content.
8. Pirate Update (August 2010) : This update was introduced to reduce the duplication of images , content and videos.
If any website uses same content from other websites , without their permission leading to duplication of content , Google will remove those websites from Google search engine.
According to Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) , a complaint can be filed against the website , which used our content. If Google understands that the complaint is genuine , Google will remove that particular website. A notice will be send and the website will be suspended.
